Follow these easy to use instructions for encrypting Word, Excel, and Acrobat files using built-in features.

1. For Word and/or Excel files, first click on File on the upper left-hand corner

2. Under the Info tab, click on Protect Document for Word and Protect Workbook for Excel followed by Encrypt with Password

3. Enter a password in the pop-up window. Re-enter the password in the next window to confirm

4. The below message will confirm your document has been password-protected

5. To open a password-protected file, double-click on the file and enter the created password

1. Select Tools on the Navigation Tab and then select Protect

2. On the Protect Tab select Encrypt

3. Select Encrypt with Password. Then select Yes on the security pop-up window

4. Check Require a Password to Open the Document and then choose a strong password. Under compatibility, choose Acrobat X and later to change the encryption method to 256-bit.

5. Confirm the password when requested. Please note that the document WILL NOT be fully encrypted until it is saved

6. To open the file, double-click the file and enter the created password.

With the Self-Service Portal for Software, our Faculty and Staff can easily locate and install pre-loaded software onto FDU owned computers. Simply launch the portal and you will be presented with a variety of applications, each sanctioned and supplied by FDU. This portal will provide an easily searchable way to view all new applications made available to the user community, including Microsoft Teams, Cisco Jabber, the FDU VPN, and many more.

How to Use and Access the FDU Self Service Portal for Software

1. Locate the FDU Self-Service Portal for Software icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the application or…
   1. Select the ‘Windows’ logo/start button on the bottom left of the desktop
   2. Type ‘FDU Self Service Portal for Software’ into the search bar
   3. Left click ‘FDU Self Service Portal for Software’ app to launch

2. To install a program, click on the name of the application, then click on the “Install” button to the right

3. A progress window will provide updates as the program is installed on your system. When complete, the Status column should indicate “Complete”

4. After the selected application finished downloading, it will automatically install and when completed, the status will show as “Completed”

• Select the ‘Launchpad’ icon from the dock

• Click the ‘FDU Self Service Portal’ icon to launch

1. Find the ‘Self Service Portal’ app icon and tap to launch

2. Click ‘Install’ to install the requested item onto your device

Once the FDU Self-Service Portal application is open, you may then continue to select and install your desired software application. You may also access and use any self-service troubleshooting solutions that are available to you from within the FDU Self-Service Portal as well.

FoxIt PDF Editor Pro can create, convert, edit, and sign PDFs across devices and is available from the FDU Self-Service Portal under “Software” for all full-time faculty and full-time staff only. Due to limited licensing, a request form found at samisupport.fdu.edu must first be submitted.
