DUO Mobile Updated Requirements

FDU’s multi-factor authentication solution, Cisco Duo, is in the process of updating their mobile operating system requirements. Starting on February 8th, 2024, Android users will need to be on Android OS version 11.0 or newer, and Apple users will need to have iOS or iPadOS version 15 or newer to use the Cisco Duo app.

Today’s most common smartphones meet or exceed these requirements, and we do not expect this to be an issue for most of our users. However, if you would like to confirm that your Android OS version meets the requirements, open the Settings app, select either About Phone or About Device, and then select Android Version. For Apple, open the Settings app, select General, then About, and then Software Version.

If you determine that you are using an older device that is affected by these requirements, it is still possible to authenticate via Cisco Duo. Instead of using the standard Push Notification option through the Cisco Duo app, your alternative authentication methods would include:

  • You can enroll a phone number to authenticate through voice calls or SMS text messages.
  • Use a different device that can download the latest version of Duo Mobile.
  • Get a temporary bypass code from UTAC, which will allow you to securely access FDU systems for a 12-hour period.
  • Use an FDU-provided hardware token if other options pose an undue personal or financial hardship.”
