New Cisco Duo Requirements

On June 30, 2023, Cisco will update the security requirements for Duo multi-factor authentication to require TLS encryption of version 1.2 or greater. After June 30th, users with operating systems running TLS 1.0 and 1.1 will be unable to use the push notification functionality of Cisco Duo two-factor authentication. Since all modern operating systems use either TLS 1.2 or 1.3, the majority of our users will not be affected by this change.

We advise members of our community using Windows 8.1 or earlier, Android OS version 9 or earlier, and early versions of Apple iOS, to upgrade to a device using a supported OS. Legacy operating systems pose a security risk as they no longer receive regular security updates.

We understand that upgrading your device is not always an option. In these instances, you can still use Duo Passcodes to perform multi-factor authentication. To use this method, select “Enter a passcode” upon receiving your browser’s Duo security prompt.

Next, open the Duo app on your mobile device and click “Show“.

This will provide a six-digit passcode which you can enter into the browser prompt.
