Unified Communications Implementation: Final Update
- November 21, 2019
A lot has transpired since we first announced the Unified Communications deployment back in February. Across the two New Jersey campuses, 1,588 new Cisco IP phones have been installed and 1,924 phone lines have been ported over to the Unified Communications platform. As we mark the completion of this massive undertaking, I would like to express my appreciation to everyone that helped us throughout this process. From the over 100 managers and department heads that strategized with us to the IT staff that implemented our plan, everyone’s collaborative effort is what made this deployment successful.
As the implementation phase of our project ends, we are discontinuing the temporary email address for Unified Communications issues, FDU-UC@fdu.edu, as of December 2nd. Our University Technical Assistance Center (UTAC) will be prepared to take all calls regarding Unified Communications from that time on. We ask that you please direct all of your Unified Communications support requests and inquiries to their attention at (973) 443-8822.
I would also like to let you know that we have conference room phones available (replacing the Polycom phones), which can be loaned out for meetings on the Metropolitan and Florham campuses. If you require a conference phone for an upcoming meeting, please log into forms.fdu.edu and select “Conference Phone Request”. Once you let us know the time and location of the conference, an IT staff member will reach out to you to discuss availability.
As we continue to move from implementation to our sustainment model, we will be building and modifying processes to best support the Unified Communications platform. In the coming months and years, we will also be rolling out additional features made possible by our newly modernized environment. We look forward to making the most of this new technology and once again we express our appreciation to everyone that made it possible.
