Office 365 Student Email Migration

University Systems and Networking will be migrating all student email accounts to Office 365 for the start of the Spring 2020 semester. This project, several months in the works, is the next phase in OIRT’s overall design to increase collaboration and productivity amongst and between faculty and students, while maintaining the security of our data. This migration will benefit anyone that has a Fairleigh Dickinson University student email account.
Benefits in include…
- Microsoft OneDrive will allow the seamless sharing of documents between FDU students and faculty.
- Mailbox storage will be increased from 25GB to 50GB.
- Enhanced security for proactive protection against spam email and other potential malicious threats.

Why is this change occurring?
Office 365 offers a powerful suite of communications tools and it has been the platform of choice for our staff and faculty members since 2016. By moving our students to Office 365, we not only provide our students with a superior messaging environment but we also increase the opportunities for collaboration between faculty and students.

How will I check my email until the migration is complete?
You will continue to log into Webmail.fdu.edu for access to your Gmail & shared documents on Google Drive for now until the upgrade is completed.

Once the migration is complete, how will I access my student email from a computer?
The process to access your email will not change. You will continue to visit webmail.fdu.edu and log in with your NetID and password.

Once the migration is complete, how will I access my student email from a mobile device?
You will need to download the Outlook mobile app. We will provide configuration instructions as the date draws closer.

What happens to my shared Google Drive documents after the migration?
You will still have access to your Google Drive documents by logging into drive.google.com. The Microsoft application suite also offers shared documents via the OneDrive tool. For collaboration and convenience, many students will likely prefer to move their documents to OneDrive. As the migration draws closer, we will provide instructions for this process.

What happens to my email address after the migration?
Your existing email address @student.fdu.edu will continue to work in Office 365.

What happens to my email messages in Webmail after the migration?
Fairleigh Dickinson University IT will transfer your email to the Microsoft Office 365 email system.
