2020 Laptop Refresh Deferred

Due to circumstances beyond the University’s control, the 2020 Laptop Refresh will be deferred until the summer of  2021.  The underlying causes for the deferment include the lack of availability of microprocessors, global supply chain interruptions, and the COVID-19 pandemic that has resulted in missed commitments, delays, and questionable product delivery schedules. These conditions created an extraordinary logistical challenge for my team to be able to support a laptop refresh in a manner that is acceptable to our faculty and staff.  As a consequence, we have chosen to delay the rollout of new laptops until the global situation stabilizes.

Faculty and staff that have been issued a university laptop may be able to take advantage of a soft-refresh before the start of the Fall semester.  OIRT is working diligently to develop a strategy that will allow our laptop users to have their laptops looked at and updated as required.  Details regarding this program will be forthcoming in the upcoming weeks.
